Taking up Archery

For safety reasons, anybody wishing to take up archery is required to attend a beginner's course. This is for your own safety, as well as for the safety of the people around you!

Southport Archers has two qualified coaches who run a number of Beginner's Courses throughout the year. Please contact the club if you are interested in joining us on one of our courses.

Please do not buy any archery equipment before attending a Beginner's course (ours or someone else's) - archery equipment varies enormously and must be correct for the individual. As part of any Beginner's Course, the coach will carry out an assessment on each person and recommend the equipment (size, draw weight, arrow length etc) the individual should be using.

Although tempting, buying archery equipment before such an assessment is carried out is an easy way to waste your money! Also, people improve their archery equipment as they progress in the sport. This means that there are often bargains to be found as second-hand equipment gets sold on.
