Southport Archers was founded in 1952 and was fortunate in the early years to have a high profile venue in Victoria Park at the end of Rotten Row in Southport. Everyone out for a Sunday stroll would see the archers.

People will still tell you that the archers meet in Rotten Row although we haven't met there for about 30 years. It seems that there was a dispute with the Southport Croquet Club who shared the ground and the archers moved outdoor venue to Scarisbrick. The President was Dr Harold Wingfield, a well known figure in Lancashire archery. There is a Harold Wingfield medal awarded annually by Lancashire Archery Association.

The club was run for a number of years by the husband and wife team of Eric and Thelma Dabrowski until they left to form the White Eagles club.

There was a lean period when the club was kept going by three officials: D Wright (Secretary), P Fisher (Chairman) and E Barnett (Treasurer).

Things picked up and the club became a force to be reckoned with in local competitions, often sweeping the board of prizes.

There have been several indoor venues including church halls, St. Thomas Moore, Ainsdale Boxing Club and the present St. Cuthbert's Primary School at halsall.
